Jean A Grimm

October 18, 1931 - May 15, 2024

In Loving Memory of Jean Anne (Simon) Grimm, age 92, who went to be with the Lord on May 15th, 2024. Jean Anne was born on Oct. 18, 1931 at home on Oakwood Ave in Lancaster Ohio to Emma Florence (Seimer) Simon and Peter Patrick Simon.

Jean was the oldest of 3 siblings: Bill Simon (Velma), Marilyn Downard (Jim), and John Simon (Barbara). For most of her growing up years, Jean resided at 902 E. Main Street and Jean’s father, Peter Simon, a pharmacist, started a drug store at the corner of East Main Street and Cherry Street, which was called Simon Drug Store.

Jean attended St. Mary’s Catholic School from grades 1 – 12 and often worked after school as a clerk at her father’s drug store during her high school years. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1949, attended 2 years of college at St. Mary’s of the Springs, Columbus, OH, then transferred to complete 5 years of Pharmacy School at The Ohio State University, graduating in 1954. Jean, along with her father and 2 brothers, Bill and John all became pharmacists.

Jean met the love of her life, Ed Grimm, by chance at the roller skating rink in Lancaster when she was 17 and he was 18. The attraction was instantaneous and would last for 75 years. Jean decided to finish college and get her pharmacy degree before getting married, while Ed enlisted in the US Navy for 4 years. They were married Jan. 8th, 1955 after Jean graduated college and Ed was honorably discharged from the Navy. They built and lived in their home of 63 years in Lancaster and made it a warm and welcoming place for family and friends.

They were blessed with 5 children, Stephen Edward Grimm (Sally), Teresa Anne LaRotonda (Greg), Paul David Grimm, Rebecca Jean Vogel (Kevin) and infant son, David Leon Grimm.

Grandchildren include Michelle Chiu (David), David Grimm (Jess), Jennifer Donaldson (Ian), Austin LaRotonda, and Justin Roberts. They were also blessed with 4 great grandchildren (Tallinn and Everett Chiu, Delaney Donaldson and Quinn Grimm), who all adored their loving grandmother / great-grandmother.

Jean was preceded in death by her infant son, her parents and 2 brothers. She is also survived by her loving and devoted sister, Marilyn Downard, nieces, nephews and many cousins.

Jean worked as a pharmacist from 1954 till she retired in 2012 at the age of 80. She enjoyed many years of taking care of her loving grandchildren, as well as 10 years of being a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and being a day camp director for 2 years for Echo Hill Girl Scout Camp. She was an avid Buckeyes Fan and followed the games of the Ohio State football players when they played on NFL teams. She loved watching ice skating, dancing and listening to music, doing crossword puzzles, and playing Scrabble. She also spent hundreds of hours knitting and crocheting things for family and friends. Jean was the family historian, compiling photos and genealogies and sending them out to everyone. She would spend time writing long letters and catching up on the phone with family and friends. Jean, always the nurturer, made sure everyone was well fed and cared for, passing out loads of garden vegetables to everyone and keeping everything organized and running smoothly, up until her last days.

Jean was a devoted Catholic with a strong faith in God and was incredibly generous to family, neighbors and friends throughout her life. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
