The 13 best parks and gardens in Swindon (2024)

The Palladian-style country house and sprawling parkland of Lydiard Park is open to the public in summer when you can explore opulent state rooms and the Georgian walled garden. There's also heritage cider, apples and honey produced on the estate.

Lovely park, nice walks and good facilities. Ample parking which is reasonably priced (you can pay via app). I find something new every time I go.

I had a fantastic day yesterday at Lydiard Park, Swindon. My crew and I went to film an interview and we automatically fell in love with the venue, the staff was friendly as well. Lydiard Park is over 26,000 acres what a beautiful place, it has a fountain as well and I saw a lot of nice birds. I highly recommend this Park for your relaxation, family picnic and huge events, it will definitely serve a lot of purpose.

Lovely place. So green and clean with a small pond filled with ducks and swans. A really calm place for a relaxed picnic. Kids played football and we visited the historic estate with what seemed to be an exclusive tour (go on a weekday). It’s the family favorite picnic spot now.

Wonderful free public park on the edge of Swindon. Great open space for games, picnics and walks and plenty of great play equipment for the kids. Take a break at the cafe or grab an ice cream. Don't miss a visit to Lydiard House to see life from a bygone age.

Beautiful lake and park toilets not looked after by council lots of complaining by people. Cafe very basic. Park had hardly any seating for parents to sit on. Adventure Park best to book staff great.

Lydiard Park a stately home with a chequered past and some Royal connections. There aren't many rooms to see, but they are interesting but it has a small entrance fee. It is an interesting place to visit. The Courtyard cafe is lovely and good value. St Mary's Church is fascinating and open some weekends. There is a car parking charge but the grounds and lake are free to enjoy.

Park is nice, green, full of nature. There is a beautiful lake, dense jungle walk and running/ walking tracks. Pets running around too. An old residency building which is now a hotel and restaurant.A small play area, rest rooms, ice cream shop, tree rope-climbing game zone. There is no free parking and parking app takes 0.30£ extra to mentioned on the machine. Parking machine always out of order. Misery to the parking.Sometimes there are fun and sports for the children activities. Funfair is in summer or holiday seasons.

Lovely big area of parkland with wide open spaces, lake, cafe, toilets. Clearly growing dandelions. Great for short and medium flat walking. Parking available although charged.

My wife took me to this place on my birthday as it was not far from Bristol and has got lots to offer from parkland walk, Museum, House, Cafe, Hotel, Garden, Lake and Church. Basically they got everything that you need. You can even bring your own picnic and do a barbeque. It's a historic estate and a great destination for a family day out. They have ample parking space and you can even park for a whole day under £5. There are no entrance fee, except museum. Cafe and hotel offers breakfast, lunch and snacks. It would have been better if they would have some animals on the ground.

Points to note:• Parking is adequate at best, so please make sure you have plenty of time to look for a place. But wardens are very nice and helped us with directions to Event after we parked the car.• A lovely Easter Egg Trail event. Lovely staff, pleasant atmosphere and great guided start. The clear weather made it one of the best things to do for Easter Sunday in a long while. Trail took us to all around the Park, kids filled in the provided egg hints paper and was very well worth it.• The House museum is highly recommended, the rooms and the button-operated commentary was a good educational experience for all.• The little Tea Room next to Trail was pretty cramped and was told only when I reached the counter that there was a further 20 minutes delay, and that was after a 20 minute wait in the queue, so I recommend to bring with you some drinks/snacks for kids.• Kids play area in the middle of the Country Park is well equipped for young children.Definitely recommend you to visit it, but please do plan ahead and give ample time for parking if driving here.

We've always loved Lydiard Park. There is a choice of 2 cafes, both do lovely coffee, food, snacks and ice cream. The toilets at the stable cafe are nicer than the ones by the park which could do with an upgrade. The park is fab for big kids and little kids. There is a great walk around the grounds too. The parking is cheap, £2.20 for 2 hours or £4.40 all day. A bargain when you look at places around Swindon that are far more expensive.

Great place to take your dogs for a walk with good tracks, open fields, a small wooded area, along with a good sized car park.

A historical park good for walking and biking. Parked the car (pay by phone app). Immediately saw green field. Then walked to St Mary’s Church. Another building of 1100 years history. We were very lucky to have a guided tour into the church as we accidentally met the leader of conservation project at the church entrance. He was so kind to explain the fascinating history of the church.

Lovely place for young families with excellent play area and lovely walks. The beautifully decorated Georgian rooms in the house are well worth a visit with excellent audio descriptions available. Good food in the cafe - what more do you want?

Beautiful place and free the enter the grounds, only £6 to go into the house. There's not many rooms to look at but that's reflected in the price (I won't share those pictures #spoiler). Cafe, and tea rooms are well stocked. Nice option for short walks, huge park for the kids too. The field have BBQ pit set up ready to use.. We drove into a small housing and turned around because we thought we had gone wrong, but we hadn't, trust the sat nav!

We love Lydiard! family fun all year round, winter welly walks to summer picnics. Visiting the horses, cows and pigs, feeding the squirrels and ducks. You can also visit the house for a small fee and 2 cafes to chose from for refreshments. We also love the trails that are put up around the park. And of course the children love the play park.

I’ve just got back from a lovely day out here with a group of friends. I highly recommend it. We went to see the house- small but fascinating , with recordings of information in each room. Then walked around the grounds that had some magnificent trees and views. Then a delicious and excellent value lunch at the stables coffee shop, all made and served by hard working and charming staff. Then we toured the church and had an informed volunteer point out things of interest, I was particularly impressed by the 15(?)c wall paintings. Finally and spectacularly a stroll around the walled garden that I have to say is almost perfect, such beautiful blooms. We all loved it, and would recommend the place to anyone wanting a genteel day out at a hidden treasure

Lydiard park has miles of walks through woodlands and fields. The paths are mostly gravel and fairly even and sturdy, there are a lot of tarmac paths around the house and cafe as well. A large lake with paths all round sits on one side of the park, and there's a large children's play park on the other side of the park with a cafe and toilets. The cafe by the main house is lovely, with a great selection of cakes and snack foods, as well as meals. They make excellent coffee as well! The toilet facilities are clean and well maintained. There is plenty of parking, which can be paid for via the machines in the car park or by a parking app which is super easy to use.
