I completed a year at Robert Rose, Inc. last week, and I will never comprehend how time tricks you into thinking it hasn't passed at all! I joined as the Marketing and Publicity Manager when I was still at Schulich School of Business - York University, with a whole semester to go. I thought I was doing something completely out of my league: business school and a full-time job at the same time? In my mind, I had no idea how I was going to juggle both of these. But I did.The routine was something straight out of a movie- waking up at 7 am, working from 9 to 5, rushing back for my classes at 7 pm- it was so incredibly fun that I never noticed how busy it was. But the truth is, it wouldn't have happened that way if it wasn't for Bob and Rachel. I've never met two people more passionate, empathetic, kind, and supportive, and they made it happen. From helping me build confidence that was dwindling after moving halfway across the world to helping me understand everything there is to know about publishing, they made this endeavor a little less impossible and a lot more enjoyable. A workplace where you feel accepted, heard, and valued every day can do wonders, and after a year here, I can confidently say that this is one of the best organizations I have worked with. The projects I work on are exciting, challenging, and collaborative. It feels good to sit in my office, plan for books coming out next Spring, build author relationships, and create content from the wonderful cookbooks I am surrounded by (quite literally). I am still working on matching Bob's humor (it's impeccable, those who know, know), and there are days when I learn something totally new and it humbles me. I'm glad that happens. Anyway, here are a few snapshots that encapsulate the ✨vibe✨

Congratulations, Malawika. We're thrilled to have you with us at Robert Rose. You have brought energy, inspiration and skill to your position. And you laugh at all of Bob's jokes. That's a lot of laughing! I'm excited to see what we can achieve this year. Onwards!

October was probably the most eventful month for me this year! 🙌It has been pivotal personally and professionally, and I have so much to share!✨I graduated from the Schulich School of Business - York University with my Master of Marketing degree, which has now been ranked #1 in Canada and Top 10 in North America! 🌎The past year has been full of surprises, challenges, and revelations that have built and shaped me as a person in all ways imaginable.I also turned 25 this month, which wasn’t as terrible as I thought it would be, mainly because of the people who surround me and support me, through the best of times and the worst of times (which is bizarre because I’ve known most of them for only a year or less!).Last year I wrote about the 24 things I had learned in the 24 years of my existence. This year, I want to focus on the art of letting go.Here are 5 things I want to let go of, as I build myself as a marketing specialist determined to chase excellence through everything I do:1️⃣ Imposter Syndrome: I can’t count the number of times I’ve passed something up just because I thought I wasn’t good or skilled enough.2️⃣ Regret: Unless I get my hands on a time machine, there is no real reason to hold on to regret.3️⃣ Comparisons: This is a hard one to let go of, and it might not be completely possible or plausible but letting go of comparing every aspect of being with someone who has a completely different life, but I feel like I've been doing that for a major chunk of my existence, and maybe, it's time to let go.4️⃣ Mediocrity: It's easy to fall into a pattern and settle for the bare minimum but from what I've learned so far, mediocrity doesn't serve you, it wraps you in a bubble of comfort that inhibits growth, which is definitely more dangerous than trying and failing.5️⃣ Judgement: I've been guilty of this more times than I'd like to admit, probably because it's easier than being empathetic. But over the years, I've realized all it does is make you bitter and cynical, and now that my prefrontal cortex is fully developed (I hope), I don't have any excuses. P.S. Here's a few glimpses from my convocation. As a COVID graduate, I never had a ceremony for my undergrad, so this was pretty amazing! #SchulichSchoolOfBusiness #SSB #Convocation #convocation2023

I am elated to share that I’ve joined Robert Rose, Inc. as their Marketing and Publicity Manager!✨I read my first cookbook when I was 8. It was a short but fascinating booklet by Kwality Wall’s Ice Cream, and the idea that ice cream could be more than, well, ice cream, left me in awe. The pandemic pushed me to explore my love for food and developing recipes, and working with an award-winning cookbook and health-book publishing house is nothing short of a dream come true! 📚 A huge shoutout to Bob, Rachel, and Meredith Dees for considering me for this role and mentoring me for the past 3 weeks. It has been absolutely delightful, and I can’t wait to share what we’re coming up with! 😁 P.S. A glimpse of my desk at work, I cannot get enough of the cookbooks!👀#newbeginnings #RobertRoseBooks #LifeUpdate #Publishing #Marketing

A glimpse of the 12 weeks that whooshed by, all too quickly! ✨ This winter term was a roller-coaster filled with challenges, learnings, and most importantly, some of the most amazing people I've worked with. Be it talking about Taco Bell or being awestruck by the amazing world of retail marketing (all thanks to prof. David), this term made me fall in love with marketing all over again. The biggest takeaway for me has been the importance of people. I've been extremely lucky to be surrounded by some of the most talented, intelligent, and caring individuals this term: be it Anushka helping me get through COVID-19 or my teammates burning the midnight oil and powering their way through late-night meetings. Only one more term to go and I can't wait for what summer brings 😁 P.S. The third image is Divya's masterpiece, in an effort to include Carla for the mandatory end-sem picture. I think she did a great job! 😅 #schulich #schulichschoolofbusiness #YorkUniversity #Marketing #Recap #Gratitude #people #WinterTerm #BusinessSchoolSchulich School of Business - York University

How is it the end of my first term at Schulich School of Business - York University already? 😳Here are a few snapshots from my last classes with Prof Martin and Prof M. David Rice - the two classes I’ve looked forward to this entire term! In this case, time really does fly by when you’re having fun (and learning 😅) #schulich #schulichschoolofbusiness #fallterm #businessschool #digitalmarketing #marketingresearch (Tried to tag as many classmates as possible, sorry if I missed anyone!)

Feeling homesick? 🤧 Winter's probably the only season that can amplify homesickness and an inherent need for comfort and warmth. 🌟 For me, food is the best way to feel close to home, and today, I'm sharing a recipe that has been passed on for generations: from my grandmother to my mother, and finally to me. 😊 This is a labor of love, like most comfort foods, and transports me right back to my childhood. What's your go-to comfort food? Tell me in the comments!https://lnkd.in/gKB8k9WN#ComfortFood #comfortzone #Homesick #Nostalgia #storytime #internationalstudents
