CNE really going all out with the price increases
$25 advance tickets (after tax and service charge) and $15 (after tax) tickets after 5 pm
At this point I'd only go if there's a cell phone or internet deal that's only offered at CNE.

For people with access to vehicles. Here is where you can find the other summer/fall fairs in Ontario. Generally cheaper than CNE. Some still have demolition derby and more agricultural stuff.
We've had good times at the Rockton one in the Fall

Likely not the same people complaining every year, because if it's too expensive one year then they're out for the rest.
And yes you will get people complaining when there's a price increase, especially on a Hot Deals forum, where every price increase makes it not a Hot Deal for an increasingly larger portion of the population.
And telling people to just suck it up and skip their coffee is super condescending.

realistically 95% of anything posted here would not be a hot deal then
as EVERYTHING has increased in price
are you going to complain about everything?
let's be open minded here as we seem to be nitpicking on what's okay to complain about

Has anyone seen the $25 physical gift cards yet? I see references to them online, but haven't found any in stores yet (checked Metro and Loblaws so far).
It's about $1 cheaper than online, plus I get 4% back for grocery category.

Guaranteed parking and all the food and everything else will also be crazy overpriced. Low entry just allows you to see how bad it is.... If you pay a lot on entry you almost feel compelled to pay for overpricef stuff because you're already "in for a pound"
Attendance keeps dropping, might as well just let everyone in for free after 5 so they can spend money and give some money to the vendors.

For those who plan to go, stop by the hit a mole game. That vendor has been a CNE staple for a long time. Not sure how much to play now but he has those long stuffed snakes that wrap around your neck. If you have good hand eye coordination, you can win a few those against other parties. I won a bunch of them years ago with the kids. Then ended up donating them after they got older.

I am sorry but your statement is inaccurate regarding attendance. We are very regular to the EX for many years and it has been going crazy with crowds every year. Last year we couldn't get to more than 5 rides due to huge lines. I am expecting this year even crazier, a hint is Niagara falls which have become almost inaccessible on public holidays and weekends and not sure if you've been to Canada's wonderland lately. I am pretty sure this year is going be even busier.
We need to open more amusem*nt parks around the GTHA area.

I wonder if the exelunch promo is gonna happen this year. Happened in 2023.
Enter before 12 noon on weekdays(I think), exit before 12, and your admission is refunded.

Maybe you haven't been around that long.

3.5 mil mid 70's
2.5 mil mid 80's
Mid 1's mil 2000's - highest in any year in the 2000's is 1.6 mil
We are at half what we used to be back in the 70's. Think about the population growth over the 50 yrs and you're taking about a huge decrease in %.

There's a footnote in the Wikipedia article that says attendance figures before 1981 were "intentionally inflated".
The admission prices are ridiculous now. $30 for general admission, plus tax, at the CNE for the 17 days, except $13 plus tax on Opening Day.
I went to the Calgary Stampede this year, which is way better overall than the CNE (especially all the free concerts), and it's general admission into the Stampede Grounds was only $25 including tax, although the event is only 10 days. Plus there were a number of free entry periods - the opening Friday immediately after the downtown parade (enter before 1:30 pm), the first Sunday morning before 12 noon for pancake breakfast day, and the Tuesday before 2 pm for Community Day (all-day for seniors and military personnel/veterans). Plus the Monday was also free for Calgary area elementary and high school students. So there were lots of opportunities to get into the Stampede Grounds without having to pay the general admission. (Their Sobeys & Safeway affiliates in Calgary also sold a "Superpass" for $50, unlimited entry for all 10 days. Having a ticket to a ticketed event inside the grounds also got you free entry). 2024 set an all time attendance high for people going to the Stampede Grounds.
CNE really needs to look at their business and pricing model. It doesn't seem like good value at all. They could make up a lower admission charge with increased sales they would get from food concessions and booth rental fees from higher attendance numbers.

Some nostalgia of the old CNE.

I still remember Knob Hill farms used to have 5c popsicles. There were lots of samples hence the name Exhibition.

I wonder how "official" this really is - other than image from Facebook in a comment, there is absolutely no mention anywhere else of Opening Day or after 5 pm special price for CNE 2024.
Including on the actual official CNE website's ticket page.
